You have probably hit on this website for one of three reasons:
1. You know me? (God help you!)
2. You are a zealous mad painter like me? (And I look so innocent!)
3. Or, you have been watching Bob Ross and now you have an itchy palm to get started and unleash all that potential? (For your sake, I pray and hope it’s no.3!)
So, how did I get started on this colourful road of no return and who exactly is Bob Ross? I think these are good questions to start with.
Over the last few years my lovely husband had whispered the name 'Bob Ross' in my ears several times (how romantic is that!) and on many occasions he suggested that I watch this fuzzy haired guy on telly doing amazing oil paintings in 30mins! My usual response was, ‘yeah that’s nice dear’ or ‘I don’t have enough time to sit wallowing in front of the T.V like you!’ Until one day, not feeling too good, I got up at 5.00am and tuned into Sky T.V and there he was, this lovely, happy, artistic man, who decided that ’every tree should have a friend,’ (well, it was 5.00am!). I watched entranced as Bob turned out a beautiful mountain scene with ease and wonder. Needless to say I was hooked! I was in bed by 9.00pm every night in order to be up at 5.00am every morning!
After a few weeks my lovely (meddlesome) husband suggested that I try out the techniques. After recovering from my bout of hysterical laughter I decided to have a go. I felt that since I did not have an artistic bone in my body, then how could I possibly fail? So armed with Bob’s DVD’s, products and books (plus two aprons, protective plastic on the floor, walls and kids!) I was confident that the only way was ‘up!’
I cannot describe the elation I felt at my first painting. I was like a child again. I kept looking at it and thinking, ‘who did that? It cannot be me because I can’t paint!’ After a while I decided to take it one step further from a hobby and train as a Bob Ross Landscape Instructor. I have since worked with some amazing people who have proved that anyone can paint.
If you fall into one of the below categories, then the style of Bob Ross Landscape Painting is definitely for you.
1. If you have never painted.
2. If you believe that you cannot paint
3. If you have ever been told that you cannot paint.
4. If you just simply love to paint.
I especially like to work with hysterical, cynical, doubtful, non artistically-boned people, like I was!
